Abstract

Within one week, several cases of personal data breaches affecting Lebanese citizens have been reported, the most flagrant of which was the leaking of public school teachers’ data. 

Teachers were surprised to learn that their personal data, including their names, phone numbers, email addresses, and government salaries and bonuses, had been leaked on a WhatsApp group.

In the days following October 8, Jordanians mobilized in solidarity with the people of Gaza, who, to this day, are still enduring nonstop Israeli bombardment. Demonstrations surged across Jordan, where protesters passionately called for a ceasefire and the revocation of agreements between Jordan and the Israeli occupation. However, their efforts were marred by obstacles and complications, hindering effective organization and communication.

Egypt has faced a notable power outage since last July due to the government’s “load shedding” initiative. Responding to increased electricity demand driven by higher temperatures and widespread use of air conditioning, authorities implemented daily power cuts lasting one to two hours to curb consumption rates.

Executive Summary The Telecommunication (Telecom) sector in Lebanon, often dubbed the country’s “oil,” historically stood as the third-largest revenue-generating sector, contributing over USD 1.2 billion to the state treasury in 2016. Over the years, the sector became infamously known for its slow, unreliable, and overpriced services. This was not always the case, however. This report delves into the factors that have led the telecom sector to its current state of inefficiency and dysfunctionality.

Diesmal steht ihr Lambert T. Koch Rede und Antwort. Er hat an der JMU Volkswirtschaftslehre studiert, war Rektor der Universität Wuppertal und steht seit April 2023 dem Deutschen Hochschulverband (DHV) als Präsident vor.
Herr Professor Koch, wie würden Sie einem Laien Ihren Arbeitsalltag in kurzen Worten beschreiben?

The Supreme Court is about to review a constitutional challenge to two unprecedented and very complicated laws regulating social media. The laws were enacted by Texas and Florida in order to counter “censorship” and alleged anti-conservative bias of major Internet platforms like Facebook or YouTube. Both laws have “must-carry” rules that restrict platforms’ ability to moderate content under their preferred editorial policies, and “transparency” rules including requirements for platforms to notify users when their posts have been moderated.
