Professor Haiqing Yu teaches at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. She researches the sociopolitical and economic impact of China’s digital media, communication and culture on China, Australia and the Asia Pacific.

Until now, one of the certainties of disaster management and research has been the exceptional nature of its subject. Accordingly, disasters are rare events of limited duration that shockingly interrupt everyday life, which is gradually restored after they have been overcome. In the light of recent years, on the other hand, the picture of everyday life as a succession of crises is increasingly emerging.

Today, CMPF Director Pier Luigi Parcu delivered the keynote speech at a conference organised by the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, sharing academic insights into the role of National Regulatory Authorities in the enforcement of media policy.

The notion of intelligence remains intriguing to researchers and practitioners, yet still somewhat mysterious. After over a century of research into the topic, there is still no widely accepted definition. Many say that intelligence is the ability to solve problems, but exactly what problems do they have in mind? Is it the ability to collect reward in Markov decision processes, determine truth in first-order arithmetic, find patterns in progressive matrices, or something else? Could it be argued that some problems are more natural than others in this context?
