In the face of the pressing global challenges posed by climate change, the recent Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum 2024 event hosted by Open Knowledge Ghana brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to explore the intersection of digital rights, sustainability, and inclusion. The panel discussion, titled “Bridging the Gap: Digital Rights, Sustainability, and Inclusion in the Face of Climate Change,” delved into the crucial role that technology, innovation, and digital empowerment can play in addressing the climate crisis.

Marina’s intellectual practice truly constituted a form of praxis. Her work was always embodied and situated in a commonly sensed world. For all its conceptual rigour, it was as aesthetic as it was theoretical; it would be a grave mistake to paint Marina as some niche theorist who happened to specialize in writing about value or autonomy. Such notions were not discussed as pure concepts but experienced and actively problematized in various collaborative contexts—ranging from the “old” Jan van Eyck, to Casco, W.A.G.E. and Cinenova.

On 28 April 2024 and ahead of World Press Freedom Day, Research Fellow Iva Nenadić spoke about media freedom and journalism in Croatia and the EU for N1 Hrvatska Newsnight.

Für gesunde Menschen ist eine Besiedlung mit dem Pilz Candida auris in der Regel ungefährlich – die meisten merken nicht einmal etwas davon. Bei anderen Gruppen – beispielsweise Menschen mit einem geschwächten Immunsystem oder Patienten auf Intensivstationen – ist die Gefahr größer. Gelangt Candida auris in ihren Blutkreislauf, droht eine Blutvergiftung, die in gut der Hälfte aller Fälle tödlich endet. Vor allem für Krankenhäuser, Pflegeeinrichtungen und Seniorenheime stellt der Pilz deshalb eine Bedrohung dar.
Starker Anstieg im Jahr 2023

Unter dem Begriff „personenbezogene Daten” können sich die meisten etwas vorstellen. Dazu gehören zum Beispiel Namen, Anschriften, Standortdaten und IP-Adressen. Diese Daten sind schützenswert, das ist für Menschen im EU-Raum völlig klar. Aber wie denken Menschen in anderen Teilen der Welt über ihre Daten und wie gehen sie mit ihnen um? Dazu forschte der Jurist Kai von Lewinski mit seinen Kolleginnen und Kollegen von der Universität Passau interdisziplinär in einem mehrjährigen bidt-Forschungsprojekt.

Ach, wenn es doch so einfach wäre wie bei Pinocchio. Dem hölzernen Hampelmann war leicht anzusehen, wenn er mal wieder eine Lüge formulierte: Schließlich wurde dabei seine Nase jedes Mal ein Stückchen länger. In der Realität ist es sehr viel schwieriger, Lügen zu erkennen; die Wissenschaft beißt sich an entsprechenden Techniken schon lange die Zähne aus.

Am 2. Mai 2024 ist die neue Ausgabe des CHE-Rankings erschienen. Mit dabei sind acht Fächer: Biochemie, Biologie, Chemie, Geografie, Informatik, Mathematik, Pharmazie und Physik. In den Augen ihrer Studierenden überzeugt die Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) demnach in sehr vielen Bereichen. „Diese sehr gute Bewertung unserer Studierenden freut uns und bestätigt die Attraktivität der JMU. Wir hoffen auf viele neue Studierende für die kommenden Semester“, so Prof. Paul Pauli, Präsident der Universität Würzburg.
