After a very successful seventh edition in Buenos Aires in April 2023, we have decided to linger a little longer in Latin America. As I gaze out of my window, I am met with a totem. This totem is gray and windowless, nestled in between offices and academic buildings. Behind it is a park, and the longer I stare, the deeper it becomes embedded in the natural landscape, after a bit I forget it’s there. But in the corner of my eye I can see another one; another totem. This one intimidates me with its red glow.

November haben sie die Bund-Länder-Verwaltungsvereinbarung zur NCT-Erweiterung unterzeichnet: Bundesforschungsministerin Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Baden-Württembergs Wissenschaftsministerin Petra Olschowski sowie Vertreterinnen und Vertreter der Ministerien aus Bayern, Berlin, Nordrhein-Westfalen und Sachsen in Heidelberg. Bundesweit gewinnt das Nationale Centrum für Tumorerkrankungen (NCT) damit vier neue Standorte – Berlin, SüdWest (Tübingen/Stuttgart-Ulm), WERA (Würzburg mit den Partnern Erlangen, Regensburg und Augsburg) und West (Essen/Köln).

She argues that governments must adopt measures to increase the protection of journalists, especially women.

In einer aktuellen Studie untersucht ein Team um den Würzburger Botaniker Kenji Fukushima die genomische Struktur der fleischfressenden Kannenpflanze Nepenthes gracilis und zeigt, wie Polyploidie – das Phänomen, mehr als zwei Chromosomensätze in Zellen zu besitzen – zu evolutionären Innovationen beiträgt. Fukushima leitet eine Arbeitsgruppe am Lehrstuhl für Botanik I der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU).
Die Ergebnisse der Studie wurden jetzt in der Fachzeitschrift Nature Plants veröffentlicht.
