Etwa 75 Prozent unserer Nutzpflanzen und mehr als 80 Prozent der Wildpflanzen sind auf die Bestäubung durch Insekten angewiesen. Der Wert dieser Bestäubung wird weltweit auf bis zu 577 Milliarden US-Dollar pro Jahr geschätzt. Die bekanntesten Bestäuber sind Bienen, aber diese sind bei weitem nicht die einzigen Insekten, die diesen Dienst für den Menschen und die Natur erbringen - Fliegen, Käfer, Schmetterlinge und Motten spielen ebenfalls eine wichtige Rolle.

Die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels können die Nahrungsmittelversorgung gefährden, soziale Probleme vertiefen und letztlich zu Konflikten führen. Studierende der Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU) Würzburg wollten daher ein Zeichen setzen und im Rahmen ihrer Möglichkeiten etwas zur Bekämpfung des Klimawandels leisten: Sie haben einen offenen Brief an die Universitätsleitung der JMU verfasst.

This week I participated in an unusually collegial and productive Senate hearing about approaches to platform transparency, presided over by Senator Coons. My detailed written testimony, including appendices listing other resources and attempting to identify platforms potentially covered by proposed laws, is here. The first edition of the Kyiv Biennial named The School of Kyiv took place in 2015. By adapting, or rather reappropriating the well-known and highly commercial format of the international exhibition, Vasyl Cherepanyn, one of the organizers of the Biennial, sought to reflect the Maidan revolution in a thematic format of education. The school epitomized the idea of a beginning, of a new page in the history of liberated Ukraine, which needs to be learned and studied.
