GENEVA / BARCELONA — As artificial intelligence and digital transformation reshape the global public sector, academic institutions are facing a critical bottleneck: a lack of specialized curricula to train the next generation of public leaders.

“Our research shows that many public policy programs in the US and Europe are failing to prepare their students for a career in a modern, digital-era public sector,” says Pontus Westerberg, Executive Director of Teaching Public Service in the Digital Age.

This question poses major challenges for corporate logistics departments. Christian Truden (University of Klagenfurt) and Mike Hewitt (Loyola University Chicago) have now developed a new data-driven approach that shows how vehicle fleets can be planned efficiently even under strongly fluctuating demand and pronounced seasonality.

Day 2 – DMRC 2026 Summer School

On Day 2 of the 2026 DMRC Summer School, delegates joined workshops on data donation, online safety, socio-technical grounded theory, and intersectional approaches to digital media research.
DMRC Chief Investigators also delivered a back-to-back-to-back seminar with the broad theme of re-thinking media for the platform age.
A major highlight of the day was the research translation roundtable discussion that explored opportunities at institutions, common pitfalls to avoid, and encouraged participants to share their own research translation experiences.

The DMRC’s 2026 Summer School kicked off today at QUT Kelvin Grove campus featuring inspiring and thought-provoking training by world leading researchers.
With over 75 delegates in attendance, today’s sessions explored a range of topics including analyzing large video collections using GenAI, discovering your teaching philosophy, instructions for systematic literature reviews, unpacking social biases in CSS, analyzing sound and music in content, and multimodal research using the image machine.
