Congratulations to Dr Ben Morgan

Ben Morgan’s PhD thesis was passed in October. The thesis – Music, Metrics, and Meaning: Australian Music Industries and Streaming Services – is a qualitative study of how recording artists and music industry professionals understood the impact of music streaming services in the Australian market between 2017 and 2018. His examiners praised the project’s “substantial, original and significant contribution to popular music studies and media industry studies” and its engagement with an “impressive sweep of histories of thinking that connects several disciplines”, describing it as “a wonderful and clearly written dissertation [which] makes a significant contribution to the emerging body of literature on digital music streaming services”. On behalf of DERC, and his supervisors Ramon Lobato and Ian Rogers, we extend warmest congratulations to Ben!
