Dr Christophe Bernasconi, LL.M.
Deputy Secretary General, Hague Conference on Private International Law
Dr. Christophe Bernasconi has primary responsibility for all Hague Conventions including the Securities Convention. He is also in charge of developing the broad range of post-Convention services now provided by the Permanent Bureau to support Contracting States in the effective implementation and practical operation of Hague treaties
Dr. Bernasconi has a law degree from Fribourg University in Switzerland, an LL.M. from McGill University in Montreal in comparative law and a doctoral degree from Fribourg University. He has been an active member of the International Bar Association Capital Markets Forum Subcommittee on Legal Certainty for Intermediated Securities, and was also Co-Rapporteur of the International Law Association’s Committee on Transnational Enforcement of Environmental law.
Dr Bernasconi has published widely, including for Private International Law publications and major Law Journals. Dr Bernasconi was a key contributor to the Explanatory Report on the Securities Convention, and is the leading author of the latest edition of the Practical Handbook on the Operation of the Hague Service Convention. He has also taught at Hague Academy of International Law.
